KPI Dashboard

Today most managers focus on KPIs, or Key Performance Indicators. KPI dashboards abound in the marketplace, but they all focus on what is happening right now, typically using a simple green light/yellow light/green light approach. This presents a big problem: if things aren't green, when did they go bad, and what variables caused the KPI to deviate?

The Envoy Development KPI dashboard focuses on when KPIs changed and what variables changed when the KPIs did. Every variable, including KPIs, contain natural variation. For example, energy costs may vary by 10 BTU/ton on any given day. A permanent shift 5 BTU/ton higher is going to cost money, but most facilities don't realize this has happened until the monthly P&L is distributed. Our KPI dashboard focuses on when that energy cost changed, and what variables changed at the same time. The problem with small, subtle shifts is that you must look back to determine that they have indeed occurred, not something on which your operators focus.

Think about it: how much time do your engineers spend trending variables in your data historian, trying to identify correlation? How many times have you seen and engineer overlay trends, convinced that they have identified what caused a KPI to shift, yet having nothing to prove that any of the variables are significant, or for that matter, if all possible causes have been considered? Our KPI dashboard shows you when those KPIs changed, for better or worse, as well as showing you what variables in your historian changed at the same time. We also display the 25 variables with the highest correlation to the KPI. It is all done automatically, allowing you time to focus on running the plant.
